The shower

The first stage was to remove the old shower arrangement and fit the new Mira Vista 900 mm quadrant enclosure in the corner of the bathroom. The work was planned so as to do as much of the preparatory work as possible prior to removing the old shower. The new controller is a Mira Excel ev with a Shower mate 1.4 bar pump fitted in the airing cupboard.

Here is the pipework in the loft. The cold feed from the right hand corner of the tank down to the pump, and the hot and cold pumped water returning from the pump and then down through the wall to the shower. The cold feed from the tank previously fed the original shower.
The hot and cold pipes for the pump, and the pump isolation valves installed at the left of the cylinder cupboard. Note the loop of hose on the hot pipes to enable flushing through.
By good fortune, the position of the new shower controller on the wall is just within the old enclosure. Consequently, the original Mira 915 controller was refitted to the new pipework (after flushing through) which enabled us to have shower facilities over Christmas. The controller was originally fitted on the left hand wall, below the spray head.
Having installed as much of the pipework as possible, it was now time to dismantle both stud walls and remove all of the original shower. We would now have to rely on the bath, something we are not really used to nowadays!
The old enclosure removed, and the corner of the room ready to build the new quadrant enclosure. Plywood upstands fitted along with battens for the shower walls. It was necessary to pack behind the upstands and battens to square off the walls.
Now the shower tray is fitted. Followed by the Mermaid shower walling and Mira Excel shower.
Next the Mira Vista quadrant enclosure is fitted and sealed.

That completes the shower installation, and now we can move on to the rest of the bathroom.
